At the moment, we are using the topic of sports and hobbies to discuss likes/dislikes, what we are good at/not good at and also comparing things.
Key phrases are:
.... ga suki desu (tenisu ga suki deu)
....ga kirai desu
.... tokui desu (good at)
....nigate desu (no good at)
If you want to compliment someone else at their skill you say "Jo-zu", but you don't really say "jo-zu" about yourself as that sounds like showing off. Tokui has more of the sense that "I am good at (whatever it is), for ME, but not in comparison to other people"
If you want to use a verb rather than a noun :
....suru koto ga suki (kirai) desu. (tenisu o suru koto ga kirai desu)
To say why you like something:
Gorufu o suru koto ga suki desu. Omoshiroi desu kara.
A useful adjective when it comes to sport (that we missed last night) is kenko-teki = healthy/ good for me.
To compare:
Sakka wa gorufu yori tanoshii desu
Football is more fun than golf
A wa B yori ADJ desu.
A is more (adj) than B
Sa-fin wa motto tanoshii
Surfing is more fun
C wa motto ADJ
C is more Adj
You can find this and more in the M-6 download I recommended last week.
Also we revised katakana using some exercises I nicked from Beginner Japanese Script.
Homework is to write a little passage about what you like/dislike and comparing things.
