NOTICE: don't forget next week is a holiday (half term)
In the class, I was using materials from M-10 of the Chikara materials (link below) feel free to download them and work on them yourself.
Key phrases were
...ga hoshii desu (I want a...noun)
....shitai desu (I want to....verb)
The +tai construction is made by knocking +masu off the masu form and adding tai.
It works in the same way as adjectives:
tabetai - want to eat
tabetakunai - don't want to eat
tabetakatta - wanted to eat
tabetakunakatta - didn't want to eat
(Try to avoid saying that you didn't want to eat something - it is a bit of a tongue twister!)
We had a couple of other useful constructions also using the masu form with masu chopped off.
One of them was + ni ikimasu
e.g. eiga o mi+ni ikimasu - go to see a film
kaimono o shi+ni ikimasu
This indicates more purpose than just "eiga o mimasu".
I think there was another construction but I have forgotten it, if you can remember, please add a comment to the blog. Ta.
We also did ch 1 of the beginners japanese script book, I promised to upload some squared paper for writing practice onto this blog but then I realised that any images will just appear embedded in the blog which is no good for our purposes. However, I will email it out to you anyway.
Homework was:
Write about -
クリスマスの時、なにが ほしいですか? なにを したいですか
たからくじを あたったら、なにが ほしいですか? なにを したいですか?
