Mon Nov 3

Welcome back after half term!

In this class we talked a little bit about Halloween and Guy Fawkes night, and I gave out some vocabulary. Kathleen told us what her children did/will do on these occasions. I asked people to write a little passage about what English people do on Halloween and Guy Fawkes night.

Then we did a bit of kanji, days of the week and how to write (and read) dates. I am going to email you the vocabulary and kanji worksheets.

Then we studied one of the chapters (M11) from the online materials - this chapter is about the use of agemasu (ageru) 'to give' and moraimasu (morau) 'to get/receive'.
Ageru is used for giving something to someone who is 'equal or slightly above' you (family members, friends but not teachers and people who you have to respect (I should be so lucky!))

obaasan ni hana o agemashita - I gave my grandma flowers.

And morau is used for getting something from someone in a similar sort of relationship.

obaasan kara CD o moraimashita - I got a CD from my grandma.

We also did some of the exercises from the worksheets in M11 that are all downloadable from the website I gave before. Don't forget there are the games and puzzles to have a go at as well.
